EXCLUSIONS / CONTRAINDICATIONS


Nurses should not undertake manual evacuation in the following circumstances

Unless they have undertaken the Trust based training and been assessed as competent

when there is alack of consent from the patient

The patients Doctor has given specific instruction that these procedures are not to take place

If the patient has recently undergone rectal / anal surgery or trauma

If the patient gains sexual satisfaction from these procedures and the nurse performing them finds this embarrassing. In this situation consultation with the Doctor and the patient is advised.
