Part No. MAN, Rev. EH. Wachs 5. Disconnect the battery cables and remove the battery. 6. Put the new battery in the box, making sure it is in the same orientation as the old battery. Connect the cables. 7. Replace the cover and fasten the strap. J UMP -S TARTING THE E NGINE If the battery seems good but won’t charge, check the alternator on the engine to ensure that it is charging the battery. If the battery loses its charge or fails, the engine maybe jump-started from any vehicle with a standard 12 volt electrical system. Replace a defective battery as soon as possible using the procedure in the previous section. 1. On the back of the engine, pullback the rubber boot covering the cable connection to the starter motor. Ensure valve exercisers are turned off at each unit before jump-starting the engine. If valve exercisers are not turned off, damage to the electronic circuit board will result. Figure 7-34.
