Requirement
1. Have a working Knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of other team members, associated professionals and agencies.
2. A working knowledge of the importance of clear communication
3. A working Knowledge of the importance of patient choice and the ways in which they can be supported to make an informed choice.
Assessment
1. Carryout on an anatomical model and be able to ascertain Bristol Stool Form Scale.
2. Be aware of when a Manual Removal of Faeces (acute) is recommended.
3. Be aware of when a Manual Removal of Faeces (acute) is not recommended or contraindicated.
4. To know how to obtain consent and be aware of establishing mental capacity.
5. To be able to carryout Manual Removal of Faeces (acute) according to steps above in a competent, safe and professional manner maintaining the patient’s privacy and dignity.
6. To carryout Manual Removal of Faeces (acute) at least once every 12 weeks to maintain competence.
7. To be deemed competent by an appropriately trained assessor.
Duration
In relation to all aspects of Bowel Care it is recommended that nurses have a formal
update at least every year
