TRAINING AND AWARENESS a) The Trust currently has a Continence Course Bowel Management Assessment and Management of bowel care for nurses. This is essential for nurses to attend prior to assessing patients in the community with a bowel dysfunction. unless they can demonstrate competency has already been achieved. b) Nurses will be assessed for bowel care and management competencies in the classroom setting by a member of the Bladder and Bowel Nursing Team. c) The nurse will then have their clinical skills and competencies evaluated in the workplace. This should be completed within 3 months of the bowel management study day. d) The nurse will have to maintain their own clinical practice in the workplace and ensure they maintain their theory and practice by reading nursing journals and accessing approved websites and bulletins.
